I’m trying to phrase this as respectfully as possible, but after the new ELO calculation was introduced, I’m not convinced that this system is actually better.
I agree that a different approach was needed, and yes, it was very easy to get stuck above 4000 rating under the old system. But at least some of the things happening now didn’t really happen before:
For one, I’ve already had some cases where I was matched in a ranked duel against the exact same player I had just played and lost to immediately beforehand. With the current rating system, the ELO differences may look relatively small on paper, but I’m being matched with players who seem to be on a completely different level and play in a completely different style. It feels a bit like being expected to win football matches against first-division players while I’m playing somewhere in the middle divisions.
I also genuinely don’t understand some of the current jumps and discrepancies between XP, Elo, and rank points.
I agree with the goal behind the change, and I do think the ELO/ranking system needed work. But the two days since the new calculation was introduced have gone so frustratingly badly for me in terms of matches that I’m honestly left unmotivated to play.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, and I’m really sorry the last couple of days have been so frustrating. This update was a bit rushed and that led to a cascade of issues that I’m working to fix as soon as possible.
The issue where you could get matched against the exact same player again immediately after a duel was a bug, and that has now been fixed.
This was a major issue with the compression algorithm we used and this completely clobbered the matchmaking. We are making changes to help you converge to your true rating faster and without too much disappointments (this fix will be live in around 12 hours or so).

If you are annoyed by it, I would not normally say this but take a break for a week or so and most of this should hopefully be fixed by then.
Thanks for the answer and for all the clarifications! Regarding the discrepancies I mentioned, it was a bit confusing at first to see relatively large jumps in both ELO and rank position (in both ways) after just a few duels, but that might have been caused by bugs that have probably been fixed by now.
