I took your image, and supposing the earth was round his guess was ab 20 px west and 6 px south of the location, so using pythagoras, his guess was about 20.8 px away. Your guess was 157 px west, and 5 px north of the location. Using pythagoras, your guess was aprox 157.1 px away. Using direct proportionality, if he lost 5000 - 2713 = 2287 pts and was 20.8 px away, x/157.1=2287/20.8, so x is 17.233.4. So you shoul’ve gotten way less points. Since I don’t know what the function to calculate the points is, I don’t know why you got 54 pts, but what I do know is that using direct proportionality, you should’ve gotten 0 pts.
Pulled actual Google streetview data from our database to analyze this further.
The round was Tutuila, American Samoa, at longitude 170.67°W. johnBOcoyTTshelf guessed Fiji, at 178.43°E. Written down those look like opposite ends of the earth, but they both hug 180° line, and the real gap between them is 10.9° of longitude (1,223 km).

Yours was Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, which was genuinely 9,052 km out. And score falls off exponentially with distance:
points = 5000 × e^(−10 × distance / 20000)The useful way to hold that in your head: your score halves every 1,386 km. 446 km still pays 4,000. At 1,386 km you get half marks, 2,500. By 9,052 km you have halved six and a half times over, and that's 54..
2,713 − 54 = 2,659 HPThat's over half a health bar out of one round, which is why round 1 hurt so much.
