I’m currently around 4600 Elo, but I’m starting to lose duels despite getting the right country every round because my opponent is just region-guessing slightly better than me (like the duel will end with me having 4k health to their 5k). I haven’t memorized anything like poles or phone codes yet.
Right now, my main strategy is using landscape, like checking where mountains are relative to my position (e.g., in Colombia or Romania) and finding matching ranges on the map. I’m also planning to learn brazilian area codes soon and I know some Japanese pole plates.
Does anyone have general strategies for improving region guessing as a whole, or tips for specific countries? Appreciate any advice!
Coming down to region-guessing, the general advice is to get some vibes via country maps (ex. Argentina is very diverse), and learn big countries’ area codes (Brazil, Mexico…). For further learning, go to plonk it. You can also use sporcle or helloquiz.app to learn the subdivisions so you can get more accurate region guesses.
Also, you can learn how the road numbers are numbered in a country, For countries like Poland, Finland, Norway, Chile etc. it could be really useful.
Chile’s regional roads go from top to bottom labelled A to Z
Poland’s starting number 1-9 has an order
etc.
Do singleplayer or parties so you don’t have too much stress learning.

I do tend to rely on infrastructure metas ie. poles bollards etc. rather than vibes so even when I played country maps I just went yeah thats x country. I see what you mean though with getting a vibe as I do have that for my home country (AUS), and I will try NMPZ.
