If you’re new to WorldGuessr I found this tip helps most of the time!
First, you want to make sure you are looking at the direction of the sun. Then, look at the compass.
Due to the way orbits work when the Sun is clearly towards the south, you will be in the Northern Hemisphere, and when the Sun is clearly north, you will be in the Southern Hemisphere.
This means that in most rounds you can always get the hemisphere right giving you at least some amount of points.
The northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere are divided on the map by the dotted equator line, as you can see here:
I learned about this tip from the great website Plonkit, and they say it’s also important to know that it won’t work every time. When it’s very cloudy, hard to tell where the sun is, or the sun is toward the east/west instead of north/south, it’s better to avoid using this.
It is important to keep in mind that between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn the Sun may appear north in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa during the summer months. You should only trust it completely when the direction of the sun is closer to north or south than it is to east or west.
Good luck and happy guessing! Reply below if this worked for you (or didn’t!)
