Game settings - specify urban/rural/mixed map

Not sure if this is possible to implement within the google maps API, but I personally hate when you are dropped off on a random road, with no signs for miles, not a trace of anything…for the vast majority of players, myself included, sometimes you can’t even guess the continent

I think many players prefer urban environments with signs, buildings, people etc - it’s obviously easier and allows you to more accurately guess…as opposed to often just taking a completely random guess

I also realise that adding more settings splits the available pool of players you can potentially match with, hence making matching longer…but there are lots of players using the site now that I think adding these extra settings could be justified

Is a good idea in general but I am not sure if we have enough players to split the pools into multiple?

Nomad games use a harder map im pretty sure (A Pro World?). I think voyager and below use world which is mixed.

Tbh, I think it’s fine as it is. Hard locations are what make the game fun.

Excuse my ignorance - I asked chatgpt and searched online, but still have no idea what those abbreviations mean

A Rural World and An Arbitrary Rural World or something like that

No I think the first one might be An Arbitrary World

Yeah, I guess sometimes it’s nice to be dropped into some completely crazy place…but maybe just 10% of times, yet currently it feels like 1/3 or more of rounds are like this

I honestly can’t remember ever being dropped into a capital city in the 100s of games I’ve played. There are what, perhaps 100 countries mapped, yet just the law of averages, you’re most likely to be dropped on some random road or at most village/something which barely qualifies as a town…I guess the suburbs of Sydney Australia often comes up, since all those little roads probably contribute a large percentage of Australia’s overall coverage (just a few long highways between the coasts), but other than that…I have never had London, New York, Seoul, Madrid, Buenos Aires etc

Thanks. I was thinking something like “A Random World”, which is kinda similar too

I am curious about the google maps API too…I will take a look/ask chatgpt for an overview. Just curious about what you can and can’t modify

For example, I have had it before when I have been dropped onto the exact same road within a few games of each other…of the millions of roads that must be mapped, the chance of being dropped onto the same road multiple times seem very rare

One was the La Paz to Oruro (or something like that) highway in Bolivia. Also had others which I can’t remember now too

Obviously not something worldguessr can control, but my hope is Google will continue mapping more of the world…for example, I might often see yellow/red/blue colours on a building/bus stop or something and think Colombia/Ecuador…we can obviously instantly rule out Venezuela despite using the same colours on its flag, simply because it’s not mapped. Same with Africa, China, Central Asia, Middle East etc

Yeah google is trying to do as much as possible but a lot of countries dont want it to be done cough China cough or its too unsafe to do (active war zones)

I understand China - they have their own and don’t want Google/Facebook etc getting involved. And really, who can blame them

With the whole “spy balloon” scandal, do you think the US would allow the Chinese government to send cars driving around, mapping the whole US? Of course not

It’s annoying as a player of this game, but from a political point of view, I understand why they don’t. That’s why many countries have their own satellites, positioning system, in certain cases even space stations etc…independence
