πŸ† Implement in-game tournaments πŸ†

There is a large interest in tournaments since they are fun competitions.
Currently, the tournaments are setup manually by COC (Chief Operations Coordinator) @Bluestar, but I see two main problems with manual tournaments:

  • People ghost the tournament or individual matches as seen in the worldguessr beginner league (WBL) tournament
  • Running the game manually costs a lot of time on the side of the moderators (@Bluestar) : matching people, matching timezones, communication with other players, etc

I wonder how easy it is to implement automatically scheduled tournaments such as the ones you can see in chess platforms (e.g. Tournaments β€’ lichess.org ).
But if its relatively easy to implement, I think it would be a great addition to the worldguessr platform.

:+1: this if you agree.

I will somehow run the WBL, idk abt more tournaments tbh. I can provide the specs and stuff to do if anyone wants to takeover from like 2027 to until this is introduced.

Couldnt you have chosen a better acronym than COC

Like CTO is much better

Also i knew abt the issue of ghosting before the pairings even came out i just hoped people show up, I guess i gotta ch3ck 3d in advance or smn. I didnt do it this time, cuz i did want to falsely remov3 hella people, but it might be the norm now

You are right. COC is definitely not appropriate, I apologize.
CTO seems so… tame…

What do you think about the following acronyms:

  • GOAT (Geographical Organizer And Tyrant)
  • BLUE (Bracket Lord of Unfair Eliminations)
  • BAN (Bracket Authority of Noobs)
  • TOAD (Tournament Overlord and Dictator)
  • RAT (Rules & Anti-Cheat Tyrant)
  • FBI (Fair-play Bureau Investigator)
  • LORD (Lore Overseer and Rules Detective)
  • THUG (Tournament Host Under God)

If you go with CTO, why not step up to CEO (Chief Elimination Officer)?
